I don’t attend church regularly anymore but, I still cannot deny the presence and feeling that rural churches impose on me. There is something deeply spiritual and complex about pictures like this one…it represents the history of our culture and in some ways, my own history and past ties to the church— the people I met there, the things I learned, and a time when I depended heavily on faith in God. At that time in my life, I lacked purpose without it. Today, this picture and the history of faith it represents still resonates with me but, it manifests itself in different ways. The journey of life is a beautiful, continuously unfolding story. The intricate learning experiences and intersections with each others’ journeys is magnificent and incredible— for some, demanding the belief in a higher power and for others, compelling them to believe in the resilience of the human spirit. For me, a mixture of both seems to be at play. Either way, I am thankful for the journey and the opportunity to learn about and from those that cross my path. In fact, the immense feeling of gratitude for this life is often times overwhelming. OMG, YOU GUYS!</p> <p>I don’t know if it’s because yesterday was so horrendous…but TODAY is awesome!</p> <p>-Practicum was super productive and I learned a ton. In addition to teaching tips and instruction, we established ground rules for discussing racism and prejudice. There were some kids (6th graders) in the class that did not understand the concept of racism. I love touching on taboo, uncomfortable subject matters! I believe that we cannot end racial tensions without discussing it and opening up a positive dialogue. In my opinion, the discussion did not go far enough today and it was more one sided (direct instruction as opposed to real discussion) but, apparently they’ve already touched on it. Additionally, the fact that it came up was inadvertent.</p> <p>-As I was walking to my practicum class this morning, I walked by two girls taking turns belting out lyrics to Adele’s “Set Fire to the Rain.” Needless to say, it made me smile.</p> <p>-Chipotle for lunch. Hell yeah!</p> <p>-Class canceled!</p> <p>-The dog I’m dog-sitting was much, much better behaved last night and today, making my life a lot less stressful.</p> <p>-Got offered a possible babysitting job in my apartment complex; convenient location and great for education resume building/working with adolescents.</p> <p>-Got called back for employment at UMW. Woohoo! One included espresso, so I should probably count it as three. teehee!</p> <p>sjdlkflaskjfjaflkjas!…now back to work!
